The South Carolina tourism industry presented several prestigious awards on February 18th at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism & Travel in Hilton Head, SC.
This year’s Governor’s Cup Award was presented to our organization (the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board) for hosting the Forrest Wood Cup event in August 2008.  The Forrest Wood Cup had a 46 million dollar economic impact on the local community and occupied nine venues in the region.  When travel was declining due to high gas prices, this event contributed a 6% increase in room bookings in the City of Columbia in August 2008.
We are so honored to receive this prestigious award and can’t thank our state and local governments enough for providing us with the dollars to make the event happen!  This award proves that partnerships equal success!
