Spring has Sprung in Lake Murray Country!

I’m a local girl, so I believe there is no better place in the world than right here in beautiful Lake Murray Country! But this time of the year, everyone really begins to understand what I mean by that! The weather is simply irresistable, the colors from the Spring blooms awaken your hibernating senses and you can’t help but smile at everyone because you just “feel” great!  SC exposure on national TV through The Masters, Family Circle Cup, The Heritage and much more are starting to make people pay attention to the beautiful state we have, but here in Lake Murray Country…we know we are the “Jewel of South Carolina!”

Well not only are God’s gifts abundant this Spring but there is so much to do in Lake Murray Country that you might have trouble fitting everything in that you want to enjoy! Our fantastic attractions have so many wonderful events planned that it’s hard to know where to begin and I certainly don’t want to leave anyone out but did want to tell you about a few things happening.

The weekend of April 24-26 will be really busy in Columbia.

Stop by the Riverbanks Zoo &  Botanical Gardens on Friday, April 24 for their Wine Tasting in the Garden and the following morning, show up really early for the annual Plant Sale. They also have “Party for the Planet” going on that Saturday with lots of things for the kids to enjoy!

The SC State Museum will be holding it’s Congaree Art Festival on Sat., April 25th as well. This is a really cool way to shop with local artisans and if weather permits, it’s mostly held outside.

Artista Vista is also going on all weekend (April 24-26) between Gervais and Lincoln Street! The “largest visual arts event in the Midlands”– 14 galleries participate and it’s FREE!

April 25th also kicks off the Rhythm on the River Concert Series at the West Metro Riverwalk Amphitheater at the Gervais Street!

Wheeee…that’s only one weekend of things to do in Columbia! The list of things to do all Spring in all 4 counties (Richland, Lexington, Newberry and Saluda) is too long to list here but you can stay up to date by visiting our online calendar of events. This is a comprehensive calendar with direct links to activities with websites. You can plan months in advance using this valuable web tool.

Maybe you want something a little less organized and a little more reflective, slap on the sunscreen and come to the Lake Murray Dam and take the trek across the Dam. Loads of people are enjoying this walking/biking path and maybe it’s just what you want/need this time of year! The Park Sites at the Lake Murray Dam are open for business 11am-7pm until May 3 when the hours increase to 11am-8pm. ($3/car or truck; $2 motorcycle)
